Submitting Your Work to Hawkwood Books
Hawkwood Books is a small publishing house operating since 2006, although not many people know that.
We Publish
- Fiction — all genres
- Memoir & life writing
- Poetry
- Young Adult
- Children’s books (8–12)
How to Submit
Please email an extract of your book (Word or PDF) along with a short description. Use your own judgement about how much to include.
What to Expect
If you don't hear after 4 weeks, that means, for whatever reason, we won't take on the book. No letter of rejection will be sent. If accepted, we do promise commitment and quality though not necessarily shelf placement and sales.
Notes
We aren't a vanity press and do not charge anything for publishing.
Books can be entered for awards. Some the publisher has to do, others you can do yourself. No obligation on either side. A few years ago, we had a book nominated for the Carnegie Medal. Miracles happen - almost.
You should try agents and consultants listed in the
Writers and Artists Yearbook before sending to Hawkwood. I feel that we can match mainstream in quality if not in markting and reach.
Profanity. This is a moot point with some writers, but we never publish anything with even a single profanity, except in error. This isn’t through any moral code but a literary code. No writing is improved by foul language, even if you think it makes the work more ‘real’.
